After all these years of driving past the sign, I finally stopped by to meet Grace, Owner of The Highlands Inn in Bethlehem, NH. It is a Lesbian Paradise set back in the woods off Rt 302 within walking distance of Bethlehem Village. I felt like I was going through a decompression zone when I drove down the dirt road past the cottage to the main inn. I arrived and instantly felt at home as Grace showed me around the property. Everything is neatly appointed and all the rooms have their own individual charm. In addition to catering to Lesbian’s they also cater to pets and do allow dogs in some of the rooms. Be sure to call Grace, stop by for a visit, and also check out their website, which is filled with helpful information regarding weddings here in NH. You will also find information on all of their special events and don’t forget they have over 15 miles of maintained trails for year round recreation. Pretty cool that acclaimed Author Jodi Picoult’s new book, Sing You Home, mentions The Highlands Inn!

Planning a wedding in the White Mountains? Not sure where to stay, where to shop, dine, play, have fun? Need ideas for your guests to do while they are here? Up until recently you could only see White Mountains TV 16 programming if you lived in the local coverage area, but station manager and videographer extraordinaire, Chris Proulx, recently launched the online version. Check it out! You may see yours truly a few times in various segments of the programming.

One of the best kept secrets in the elopement business for those outdoorsy couples looking to save money and wed in the mountains is to stay and dine at the AMC’s Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch, or the AMC Highland Lodge in Crawford Notch. Not only are they literally “in” the mountains, but the food is INCREDIBLE and the accommodations quite nice. You may not have rose petals draped over your sheets when you arrive back for the night, but chances are, if you are wedding on a mountain, you aren’t overly concerned with rose petals. If you are, check out the amazing B+B’s and local inns in nearby Jackson Village.

Love the snow melting off the roof in this shot!

Cindy and Chuck just down from Crystal Cascades.

I love looking off towards the mountains, square ledge trail in the distance.

I love The Lodge! What a great setting for New Years Eve 2009. The Fuller’s tied the knot with Kim The JP presiding. I loved The Lodge’s schedule of FOOD events mapped out for guests in the lobby! This is such a warm and inviting property conveniently located across the street from Jackson Ski Touring Foundation and on the bank of the Ellis River.
Kim and Riley spent New Years Day at Nestlenook Farm skating and playing in the snow. Congrats!

I’m always impressed with the staff and food at the White Mountain Hotel. Flowers and cakes are all slightly different, but one constant that is such a nice touch, the personalized wedding menu. They do a great job here and you should add it to your radar if you haven’t yet picked a venue. Scenic views, great accommodations, a heated outdoor pool, and wonderful food.

In their words, Jenilee and Michael sum up what I will vouch for – exceptional customer service, incredible food, and jaw dropping scenery. This is why we all love the Stonehurst Manor :) – Meg
Stonehurst Manor made our wedding the best day of our lives. The staff was amazing and the cuisine was a culinary adventure. Stonehurst Manor is truly of the master class of wedding destinations. The view from the hot tub and pool were breathtaking. I would like to thank Peter and all of the members of the Stonehurst including Heidi, Denise, Jim, and Michael for making all of our dreams come true! We will return to the White Mountains for our anniversary as long as there is still breath in our lungs!
Thank you all very much!
Love, The Buckleys

Don’t let the size of your celebration prevent you from picking up the phone to find out what kinds of options you have on your “elopement” day. Here in the Mount Washington Valley a handful of photographers (including myself) will do smaller bookings. I offer photo and video services by the hour and if you want to combine photo and video you can save. Elopements are gaining in popularity due to the economic crunch we are experiencing, in fact last year KimTheJP.com preformed 33 elopements (or small intimate ceremonies less then 20pp) in addition to larger ones.
The fun part about considering an elopement is that no location is ruled out. If you are catering to 150 guests, not all of them may want to venture to Diana’s Bath, Crystal Cascade, or the Summit of Wildcat Mountain. When is just the two of you, the sky is the limit.
Kim (the JP) also works for the AMC, so she’s always helping clients find a fun and unique location to fit their mood. Not interested in hiking in your dress, not to worry, Jackson is home to many fine Bed and Breakfasts, quaint Inn’s and Spas – lots to discover just by checking out the chamber website here. Some Jackson favorites may pop out:
Whitney’s Inn
Snowflake Inn
Wildcat Tavern
Carter Notch Inn
Inn at Ellis River
Inn at Thorn Hill
Christmas Farm Inn
Eagle Mountain House

It’s best to check out each individual website to get full details. Some offer elopement or romance packages, others have pools and spas. JP: Victoria Murphy officiated the ceremony. Ruthie’s in Conway did flowers.
Elopements in New Hampshire are exciting! Why? Because there is so much to do, and so many great venues, and vendors to choose from. I’m always jazzed to get that email or call from a prospective couple looking to make plans to privately tie the knot. They may be choosing the White Mountains because it’s a place they have always been coming, or they are just looking for something nice, affordable, and easy to get to. Whatever the reason our local Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Chamber websites are a huge help listing both Inn’s, B+B’s, and restaurants. 80% of the time it’s just the couple and maybe two or four close friends and family, so you want to make sure you celebrate in style and find a dining establishment that will fit your needs and personality.
After you comb over some of our local resources, don’t hesitate to email or call me for recommendations. As a true native, I’ve dined most everywhere in town, and can recommend places to stay based on your style, taste, and budget. What amenities are important to you? If you have never been here, and tell me you are thinking of staying at “x” but would love mountain views, I could recommend “y” because they have better views and easy access to “a,b,c” things you may like to do. It can’t hurt to ask a local.
One such venue is The Snowvillage Inn. Located in overly quaint Snowville, NH, truly an enchanting 18 room country inn with sweeping views of the Presidential Mountain Range. I was lucky enough to photo and video Carlie + Rob’s private elopement on June 6, and I was just back at The Snowvillage Inn for the wedding of Dawn+Shawn on June 20 (100+ pp).
